General Information

The Commissioner of the Revenue is a constitutional officer elected by the citizens of King William County for a 4-year term.  The current Commissioner is The Honorable Karena L. Funkhouser.  Her term will expire on December 31, 2027.   

The Commissioner of the Revenue is the chief assessing officer in King William County and is responsible for assessing real and tangible property for ad valorem tax purposes. Each year, the Commissioner of the Revenue produces the Land Books for the County and the Town of West Point.  The Clerk of Circuit Court maintains copies of all King William County Land Books.  The Land Books for the past five years are also available on the King William County website. The Commissioner of the Revenue administers the following taxes and programs:

  • Real Estate taxes  2025 Rates:  County $0.615/$100  Town $0.305/$100
  • Personal Property taxes
  • 2025 PP Rates:  County $3.65/$100 & $3.15/$100 for PPTRA vehicles Town:  $1.65/$100 & $1.15/$100 for PPTRA vehicles
  • Business Professional & Occupational License Tax (BPOL)
  • Machinery and Tools Tax
  • Food & Beverage Tax (4%)
  • Land Use
  • Tax Relief for the Elderly or Disabled
  • Disabled Veteran's Tax Exemptions
  • Transient Occupancy Tax (7%)
