Commissioner of the Revenue

General Information

The Commissioner of the Revenue produces the County's Land Books which are delivered to the Circuit Court each year. Separate books are created for the County and the Town of West Point due to their different tax rates. The Exempt Books list the properties owned by governments, religious organizations, etc. VIEW LAND BOOKS

The Commissioner administers the assessments for businesses and individuals in the following areas:

  • Business license fees
  • Personal property taxes
  • Real estate taxes
  • Machinery and tools taxes
  • Food & beverage tax
  • Consumer utility taxes

The Commissioner's office also spends considerable time working on state income taxes, helping citizens complete their returns and performing initial processing prior to delivery of the forms to the State Department of Taxation.

About the Commissioner

The Commissioner of the Revenue is a constitutional officer elected by the citizens of the County to a 4-year term and is the chief tax assessing officer in King William County. The current Commissioner is The Honorable Karena L. Funkhouser whose term will expire on December 31, 2023.
